WHY ‘WORDS THAT HEART’?
Often when going through the experience of involuntary childlessness, we can be hurt by the careless words of other people. ‘You don’t know what real tiredness is until you’re a parent.’ ‘Why don’t you just adopt?’ ‘Have my kids if you want them. They’re a nightmare.’ ‘You never know true love until you become a parent.’ When thinking of a name for our writing for wellbeing workshops, exclusively for childless-not-by-choice people, we decided to turn the idea of ‘Words That Hurt’ on its head and switch hurt for heart, to emphasise the love and healing that we hope our writing exercises will foster. We know it’s a bit ungrammatical, but we like it.
The workshops are designed and led by Annie Kirby and Meriel Whale.
